Awards for literary achievement

Libby has won many literary awards for her novels and picture books, both in Australia and internationally.

AWARDS FOR OVERALL ACHIEVEMENT IN THE ARTS

In 2022 Libby Hathorn was the recipient of the prestigious Australian Book Industry Award (ABIA) The Pixie O’Harris, which recognises excellence and dedication to children’s literature.

Libby Hathorn was awarded a CENTENARY MEDAL, 2003 for service to Australian Children’s Literature, and the NSW Children’s Week Award, Media, 1992.

Libby received THE ALICE AWARD, 2014 a national award for an Australian woman writer ‘who for her written work has made a distinguished and long-term contribution to Australian literature.’

AWGIE AWARDS – Libby won and Australian Writer’s Guild Award in the category Theatre for Young People for her opera libretto Grandma’s Shoes.

Libby has also been nominated for the MINISTER’S AWARD for Outstanding Contribution to Improving Literacy and or Numeracy, as part of a National Literacy and Numeracy Week.

Libby received the ASHER LITERARY AWARD 2017 for A Soldier, a Dog and a Boy.  The Asher Literary Award is managed by the Australian Society of Authors on behalf of the Australia Council, and is awarded biennially for a woman writer on an anti-war theme.
