I was thrilled to work with Elena Kats Chernin, composer, to bring OUTSIDE as opera libretto to life. The Sydney Writers’ Festival staged a reading with music on Family Day at Carriageworks that was a sellout!

After such a stunning performance I now look forward to its development as a full opera in 2020. To this end I will be travelling to Queensland for a four day workshop in June to meet with the proposed director.

From press release:

‘Libby Hathorn, local kids’ writer, read her picture book OUTSIDE whilst a talented trio, James Crabb of accordion fame, Jonathon Zwartz of double bass power and Christina Leonard (who ably arranged Elena’s music) of the magical saxophone, made lively music for the extraordinary singer Astrid Connolly whose range must include top C!

Children hummed, tapped, shook bells, conducted and generally celebrated both music and word.’
